Texas football connected to Ra’Shaad Samples for WR coach
All the rage surrounding the Texas football program in the last few days has to do with the looming wide receivers coaching search. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian have to replace the now-former first-year wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion.
Marion left to take the offensive coordinator position under new head coach Barry Odom with the UNLV Rebels.
Sark and the Longhorns will now be looking for their third wide receivers coach in the last two years. Marion replaced former Texas wide receivers coach Andre Coleman at the outset of last offseason. And after one solid year at the helm at Texas, Marion has now left Sark with another coaching search on his to-do list this offseason.
One of the names that we’ve heard a lot among the possible candidate shortlists for Texas to be the next wide receivers coach is the former Texas assistant WR coach Ra’Shaad Samples.
Texas football has support inside the program for Ra’Shaad Samples as the next WR coach
The new Arizona State Sun Devils wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator under recently-hired head coach Kenny Dillingham, Samples, could find yet another home this offseason. Samples was just hired away from the Los Angeles Rams to Arizona State as he spent one season as the running backs coach under head coach Sean McVay in 2022.
Despite getting hired to Arizona State’s staff under Dillingham last month, it looks as if Texas is making a serious run at Samples to fill the WR coach opening this offseason.
According to a report from Mike Roach of Horns247 on Jan. 11 (paid content), people inside and outside of the Texas program are voicing their support for Samples as the next wide receivers coach to replace Marion.
It’s worth noting that it doesn’t sound like there is concrete sources yet saying that contact was made between Sark and Samples. But it might only be a matter of time before the Longhorns establish communication with Samples as he looks to be one of the top candidates for Sark and the Texas administration/boosters.
A few names worth watching that are connected to the WR coach job with the Longhorns are the Alabama Crimson Tide WR coach Holmon Wiggins and Baylor Bears running backs coach Justin Johnson.
