SEC Football: 3 possible destinations for LSU QB Walker Howard
TCU
Among the potential Big 12 landing spots for Howard, the one that probably makes the most sense is with breakout head coach Sonny Dykes, offensive coordinator Garrett Riley, and the defending National Champion runner-up TCU Horned Frogs. TCU is also one of the possible destinations that were mentioned for Howard out of the portal this offseason in the ESPN report on Jan. 11.
It has to sound good for Walker to be able to play for the reigning Broyles Award winner in Riley at TCU. And given how he would be able to compete for starting reps right away at TCU, it could be appealing to Walker to be able to make an immediate impact on this offense in Fort Worth.
Howard would also be a clean fit schematically in Riley’s offense. Riley likes to have that dual-threat aspect in his quarterback’s skill set. Just look at how he utilized the Heisman runner-up and senior quarterback Max Duggan this past season.
Moreover, while TCU was one of the programs that offered Howard out of high school, most of the staff in Fort Worth at the time was the one under former head coach Gary Patterson. The current TCU coaching staff under Dykes isn’t one that has as many connections to Howard during his recruitment as the one did a couple of years ago under Patterson.
Nonetheless, there are too many reasons why it makes sense for Howard to land in Fort Worth with the Horned Frogs to ignore this fit. His dual-threat skill set is a good fit in Riley’s offense and he could make a long-term impact as the potential face of this program for another three or four years.
