How to watch Texas basketball vs. Texas Tech: TV/stream, game time
Acting head coach Rodney Terry and No. 10 Texas basketball will look to extend its winning streak to three games against a down Texas Tech Red Raiders squad at home at the Moody Center in Austin on Jan. 14. Texas comes into this game with some impressive Big 12 wins under its belt, while Texas Tech is still seeking out its first victory in conference play this season.
Terry and the Longhorns come into this meeting against Texas Tech with a record of 14-2 (3-1 Big 12) following a really impressive comeback win against head coach Jamie Dixon and the No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs on Jan. 11, by the final score of 79-75. At one point in that game against the Horned Frogs, Texas was down by 18 points.
The win over TCU resulted in the biggest comeback for the Longhorns in nearly a decade.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech heads into the weekend with a record of 10-6 (0-4 Big 12) having lost four straight games to open up the Big 12 slate. Texas Tech’s last game resulted in a blowout 84-50 loss at the hands of the No. 14 Iowa State Cyclones on the road in Ames on Jan. 10.
Don’t let the loss to Iowa State deceive you, though. Texas Tech played its three previous opponents in Big 12 play much closer. Texas Tech’s loss to the No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks came at home by just a three-point margin. And the loss to the Oklahoma Sooners at home on Jan. 7 came in overtime.
Here’s a look at the TV/streaming information and game time as Texas gets set to host Texas Tech at home at the Moody Center in Austin on Jan. 14.

Texas vs. Texas Tech preview
While this might look like a very winnable matchup on paper for the Longhorns, Texas Tech is still not a team that Terry’s squad should take lightly. Texas Tech boasts some starters that have played well against the Longhorns in the past in redshirt senior big man Kevin Obanor and senior guard De’Vion Harmon.
In the first meeting between Texas Tech and Texas last season, Obanor went off for 17 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Harmon also scored in the double figures in both outings against Texas while averaging 4.5 assists per game when he was still playing for the Sooners during the 2020-21 season.
Texas will need to come out with a strong offensive performance to avoid falling from behind as it did against TCU earlier this week and in the defensive collapse against the Kansas State Wildcats on Jan. 3. But Texas has looked much better in the last two games, beating the Oklahoma State Cowboys and TCU by a combined 14 points.
Just because the Red Raiders doesn’t pose a challenge that the Longhorns should take lightly this weekend, this is still a game that Terry and his staff must win to continue contending in the Big 12. This is still one of the more winnable games for the rest of the Big 12 slate given the difficulty that is playing in this conference game in and game out.
