The next test up for acting head coach Rodney Terry and No. 10 Texas basketball will come against head coach Mark Adams and the struggling Texas Tech Red Raiders at home at the Moody Center in Austin on Jan. 14. Texas and Texas Tech are two teams headed in opposite directions at the moment.

Terry and the Longhorns will be looking for their third straight win in Big 12 play after downing the No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs in a massive comeback victory at home at the Moody Center on Jan. 11, by the final score of 79-75. That 18-point comeback win was the biggest for the Longhorns in nearly a decade.

The win over TCU moved Texas’ record on the season to 14-2 (3-1 Big 12).

Meanwhile, Texas Tech comes into the weekend sporting a record of 10-6 (0-4 Big 12) after an 84-50 blowout loss at the hands of the No. 14 Iowa State Cyclones on the road at Hilton Coliseum in Ames on Jan. 10. Texas Tech has lost four straight games heading into this matchup against Texas this weekend.

Texas Tech will also be looking to avoid joining the West Virginia Mountaineers as the only team Big 12 teams that lost the first five games in conference play this season.

Here’s a look at the betting odds and game prediction as Texas gets set to host Texas Tech at home at the Moody Center in Austin on Jan. 14, with the tip-off time set for 7 p.m. CT.

Texas vs. Texas Tech prediction

Texas has really struggled against Texas Tech in the last few years. Texas Tech swept the Longhorns in the season series last year, winning those couple of games by a combined margin of 19 points. The Red Raiders also have nine wins in the last 11 tries against Texas, dating back to the 2017-18 campaign.

Although, this is a rare occasion when a ranked Texas squad faces an unranked Texas Tech team. The last time that the Longhorns hosted an unranked Texas Tech team in Austin was way back when Rick Barnes was the head coach in 2010-11. That 2011 meeting between No. 3 Texas and unranked Texas Tech ended with a 16-point triumph for the men in Burnt Orange.

Texas will have a chance to continue to sit near the top of the Big 12 standings if it can get a win in a primetime Saturday night game in front of a national television audience on Jan. 14.

This is going to be one of the few very winnable games for the Longhorns at home during the Big 12 slate this year. Texas must take advantage of these types of situations when they come along. This looks like a great opportunity for Texas to finally put some of the troubles in the recent series against Texas Tech behind them.
