Texas Football: 3 Georgia transfers the Longhorns should pursue
Jaheim Singletary, CB
In terms of pure talent and potential, there is not a more appealing option among the Georgia defenders in the portal right now than the 6-foot-2 and 180-pound freshman cornerback Jaheim Singletary. The former elite five-star recruit out of Riverside High School in Jacksonville, FL, was one of the more surprising portal losses for the Dawgs early this offseason.
Singletary looked like he was primed to compete for a starting job in Georgia’s secondary, especially upon the departure of standout corner Kelee Ringo in 2023.
Instead, Singletary will be looking for a new home with all four years of eligibility remaining at his next stop.
What Singletary brings to the table is an uber-talented and potent corner with excellent length and the ability to play physical man-press coverage. He’s got quick hips and great ball skills, which resulted in him nabbing a whopping 14 picks and 28 pass breakups in his three years playing for Riverside High School, according to Maxpreps.
If Texas were to pursue Singletary in the portal, he would likely be offered as a potential backup at boundary corner behind rising redshirt junior Ryan Watts. Singletary could compete with to-be second-year corner Austin Jordan for the second-team reps at boundary cornerback.
This is another situation where if Texas wants to add some depth at a spot that isn’t in dire straits at the moment, but could potentially use some bolstering, then Singletary could be the guy. I will say that boundary corner doesn’t have as much depth at the moment as field corner, which could have three guys all competing for a starting job this year.
