What promises to be one of the biggest tests on the regular season docket for acting head coach Rodney Terry and No. 7 Texas basketball will take place at Hilton Coliseum in Ames on Jan. 17. Texas will battle the No. 12 Iowa State Cyclones and head coach TJ Otzelberger to try and stay within reach of the No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks in the Big 12 standings.

Terry and the Longhorns are on the right track, though, heading into this matchup against Iowa State. Texas has won three games in a row heading into this big-time matchup in Ames early this week. The most recent outing for the Longhorns resulted in a tight 72-70 win at home at the Moody Center in Austin on Jan. 14 over the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The win over Texas Tech moved Texas’ record on the season to 15-2 (4-1 Big 12).

Iowa State was riding a hot streak of its own prior to its most recent game. Prior to the loss to Kansas on the road at Allen Fieldhouse on Jan. 14, Iowa State had won six games in a row. But the loss to the Jayhawks moved Iowa State’s record on the season to 13-3 (4-1 Big 12).

Make no mistake, though, Iowa State is a really formidable squad. The Cyclones only fell short of the Jayhawks by two points on the road in Lawrence last weekend. Iowa State also has yet to lose a single game at home this season in eight tries.

Here’s a look at the TV/streaming information and game time as Texas hits the road to take on Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum in Ames on Jan. 17.

Iowa State is one of the most dominant teams at home in all of college hoops this season. This will be a really tall task for the Longhorns. But Terry’s squad has overcome some huge challenges in the last couple of games, including two straight double-digit comeback wins.
