Amid some of the swirling rumors that connected him to the Texas football program this week, Georgia Bulldogs sophomore wide receiver Adonai Mitchell has now reportedly put his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal. A report from Jake Rowe of DawgsHQ (part of the On3 network) on the afternoon of Jan. 18 stated that Mitchell has submitted his paperwork and that his name is expected to officially appear in the transfer portal later in the day.

Given some of the rumors and reports connecting the Longhorns to Mitchell, I’d imagine that Texas will be one of the top destinations for his next stop out of the portal. Another potential landing spot for Mitchell that was mentioned earlier in the week is the USC Trojans.

But the sentiment surrounding the Texas media landscape at the moment is that Mitchell is the type of guy at the wide receiver position that the Longhorns were waiting for in the portal. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian were very patient and thorough with their portal offers so far this offseason.

And that led to the Longhorns passing over a lot of quality wideouts in the portal in the last few weeks. But if that patience means that Texas will be in the running to land a commitment from the talented 6-foot-4 and 190-pound Mitchell out of the portal, it will be well worth the wait.

It was expected that if Mitchell did enter the portal, one of the reasons why Texas would be such a viable destination was that he could get closer to home. Mitchell is a Houston-area native. He played the first two years of his high school football career at Fort Bend Austin in Texas.

Mitchell then transferred to Antioch Cane Ridge (TN) for his final two years of high school.

We will continue to follow this storyline as more information comes out regarding some possible destinations for Mitchell once his name officially appears in the transfer portal this week.

Mitchell definitely fits the bill of what the Longhorns are looking for out of a quality boundary receiver in the portal to solidify the wide receiver room this offseason. He could add some depth and give another big weapon on the outside for quarterback Quinn Ewers as redshirt sophomore boundary receiver Isaiah Neyor continues to work his way back from a season-ending knee injury he suffered in fall camp last year.
