It looks like Texas football may have found the wide receiver target it wanted in the NCAA Transfer Portal all along this offseason on Jan. 18. With the 6-foot-4 and 190-pound Georgia Bulldogs sophomore wide receiver Adonai Mitchell submitting his paperwork to enter the transfer portal on Jan. 18, Texas is potentially the favorite to be his next destination.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns were waiting patiently for the right player to show up in the portal to address the need at the wide receiver position early this offseason. And Mitchell appears to fit the bill of the type of talent at wide receiver that Sark and the Longhorns wanted to see.

Moreover, word on the street is that the decision-making process for Mitchell once his name officially surfaces in the transfer portal will move pretty fast. It sounds like Mitchell will form his list of top schools and probably try to set some visits in short order this week since filing his paperwork to enter the portal.

Texas football reportedly in a good spot to get Georgia WR transfer Adonai Mitchell to Austin for a visit soon

Texas looks like it will be in a good position to get Mitchell to campus for a visit in the near future too. Orangebloods reported on the afternoon of Jan. 18 that Mitchell is expected “to visit Texas by the end of the week”.

The sentiment from essentially every other major media outlet for the Longhorns is that Texas is expected to heavily pursue Mitchell since his portal paperwork is submitted this week.

Even going back to some reporting on the night of Jan. 17 from Mike Roach of Horns247 (paid content), it was expected that Texas was going to be interested in Mitchell if he did enter the portal prior to this window closing on Jan. 18.

And now that Mitchell is officially expected to have his name surface in the transfer portal later in the day on Jan. 18, it looks like Sark and the Longhorns can make their move. Getting Mitchell to campus for a visit in the near future would be the logical first step for Texas to make its pitch to land Mitchell.

Next. 3 Georgia transfers Texas could pursue this offseason. dark

Texas was expected to want to grab one or two portal wideouts this offseason. If Mitchell does wind up at Texas, that would either cross off the need at the position completely as it relates to recruiting out of the portal or put this staff one player away from getting this group set for the 2023 season.
