On campus right now is a big-time visitor for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. Multiple reports have indicated that Texas is currently hosting the former Georgia Bulldogs sophomore wide receiver Adonai Mitchell on a visit to Austin on Jan. 19.

This is coming just after Mitchell entered his name into the portal on Jan. 18.

Justin Wells of Inside Texas reported on the evening of Jan. 19 that Mitchell is in Austin for a visit right now. And a report from Horns247 on Jan. 19 also confirmed that Texas is currently hosting Mitchell for a visit to Austin.

Mitchell is clearly the biggest transfer portal target for the Longhorns at the moment. He was the type of wideout that the Longhorns were waiting to enter the portal in the last six weeks or so. Mitchell could be an immediate impact pickup if he does wind up landing on the Forty Acres as his next stop out of the portal.

Moreover, Mitchell will have at least two years of eligibility remaining at his next destination out of the portal. He spent two seasons playing for Georgia, where he registered 38 catches for 560 receiving yards (14.7 yards per catch) and seven receiving touchdowns.

Mitchell missed most of the 2022 campaign for Georgia as he dealt with a lower-body injury throughout much of last fall. But he did get some targets in Georgia’s College Football Playoff run this season, including a couple of touchdowns in each matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes and TCU Horned Frogs, respectively.

If Texas is able to pickup a commitment out of the portal from Mitchell, he would be the fourth addition via the transfer market for Sark and his staff in the 2023 class. Mitchell would also be the first portal addition for the Longhorns at the wide receiver position this offseason.
