After a 78-67 loss to the No. 12 Iowa State Cyclones on the road in a tough environment at Hilton Coliseum in Ames on Jan. 17, No. 7 Texas basketball will be looking to bounce back in the midst of another test away from home this weekend. Acting head coach Rodney Terry and his squad will look to get back to their winning ways on Jan. 21 against longtime head coach Bob Huggins and the West Virginia Mountaineers.

The loss to Iowa State moved the Longhorns to a mark of 15-3 (4-2 Big 12) on the season. The only two slip-ups on the season now for the Longhorns in Big 12 play have come at the hands of the Kansas State Wildcats (Jan. 3 loss at home) and Iowa State.

Prior to the loss to Iowa State, Texas was riding a three-game winning streak dating back to a Jan. 7 win on the road in Stillwater over the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Meanwhile, West Virginia comes into this matchup against Texas on a high after getting its first conference win over the No. 14 TCU Horned Frogs at home on Jan. 18, by the final score of 74-65. The win over TCU moved the Mountaineers to a mark of 11-7 (1-5 Big 12) on the season. Prior to its win over TCU earlier this week, West Virginia was riding a five-game losing streak.

Here’s a look at the TV/streaming information and game time as Texas gets set for another road test this week as it takes on West Virginia on the road at WVU Coliseum in Morgantown on Jan. 21.

How to watch Texas basketball vs. West Virginia

TV: ESPN

Live Stream: WatchESPN App

Radio/Audio Stream: Longhorn Radio Network, Sirius XM 84

Game time: 5 p.m. CT

For the fourth time this season, the Longhorns will have a game broadcast live on the flagship ESPN network. This will be a welcome sight for the Longhorns’ faithful as this game will be much more accessible than a couple of recent outings in conference play when Texas was broadcast on ESPN+/Big 12 Now against Iowa State and the Longhorn Network against Oklahoma State.

According to Texassports.com, Rich Hollenberg and Fran Fraschilla will have the call for this game on ESPN.

Texas vs. West Virginia preview

Texas has owned the recent series history against West Virginia. The Longhorns swept the season series against West Virginia last year. And Texas has won four of the last five games against West Virginia dating back to the 2019-20 season.

I will say, though, that this is a West Virginia team that looks a lot more formidable in its last three outings. Since two straight tough losses on the road to Oklahoma State and the Kansas Jayhawks, respectively, West Virginia looked good in its last three games against the Baylor Bears (Jan. 11), Oklahoma Sooners (Jan. 14), and TCU.

West Virginia has a different identity this season than in past years, where Huggins’ squads were known more for their defense first. But this season’s West Virginia team ranks 54th in the country, averaging more than 77 points per game. This is likely going to be a high-scoring affair, as West Virginia has the No. 7 ranked scoring defense in the Big 12 this season while the Longhorns have the top scoring offense in the conference.
