The most unfortunate of the former Longhorns players on this list that never was quite able to live up to the hype is redshirt sophomore wide receiver Troy Omeire. This former blue-chip recruit out of Sugar Land Fort Bend Austin (TX) was the highest-rated wide receiver signee in the Longhorns 2020 class.

And Omeire showed plenty of flashes in his time in camp during his true freshman campaign in 2020. The insane catches that Omeire was making and the body control he put on display truly made Texas fans super-excited about what he could bring to the table right away as a first-year wideout.

Unfortunately, though, Omeire’s true freshman campaign ended before it really began when he suffered a season-ending knee injury in camp. And that would be the first of two devastating knee injuries that Omeire suffered in back-to-back years, ending each of his first two years in college.

In 2022, Omeire finally looked like he was going to get his shot in the spotlight. Coming off two straight season-ending knee injuries, Omeire was primed to compete for a spot on the two-deep. And the need for someone like Omeire to rise to the occasion was only magnified when Texas lost redshirt sophomore boundary receiver Isaiah Neyor to a season-ending knee injury in fall camp in 2022.

We did see Omeire make his Texas debut in live-game action in the season opener last fall against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks. That would be the game that we saw Omeire the most often, though.

Omeire received a similar snap count to that of Hall during the 2022 season. He got 22 offensive snaps over the course of four games in the season that was. That resulted in him getting targeted just once, which went for a catch for nine yards and no scores.

Following the conclusion of the regular season, Omeire elected to put his name in the transfer portal. He is the second of two players on this list that ultimately chose Arizona State as his next stop out of the portal in 2023, along with the Dallas native Dorbah. If Omeire is healthy for the Sun Devils next season, he could be a massive pick up for Dillingham and his staff.
