The biggest NCAA Transfer Portal target on the radar of head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program at the moment is definitely the former Georgia Bulldogs 6-foot-4 and 190-pound sophomore wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. And it looks like Texas’ effort early on to push for Mitchell out of the portal could soon pay dividends.

Sark and the Longhorns staff already hosted Mitchell for a visit this week. That visit came roughly just 24 hours after the initial reports surfaced that Mitchell had submitted his paperwork to enter the transfer portal on Jan. 18.

From the early returns coming out of the first day of Mitchell’s visit to Austin, it sounds like Texas has made a really positive impression on the former blue-chip recruit.

In fact, multiple reporters/recruiting outlets have forecasts projecting Mitchell’s commitment to Texas. Hudson Standish and Mike Roach of Horns247 both entered Crystal Ball Predictions with moderate to high confidence levels that Mitchell will land at Texas.

Standish entered his Crystal Ball prediction projecting Mitchell to Texas the morning after Mitchell’s name showed up in the portal (Jan. 19). And then, Roach’s Crystal Ball was entered roughly 24 hours after Standish’s, on the morning of Jan. 20.

Moreover, there is another recruiting service that appears to peg the Longhorns as the overwhelming favorite to land a commitment from Mitchell out of the portal. On3 is giving Texas literally a 100 percent chance to land Mitchell.

Granted, I would imagine this is due to Mitchell already having taken a trip to the Forty Acres while he is probably still figuring out his visit schedule for other top schools. It sounds like he could still take visits to see the likes of the USC Trojans and Ole Miss Rebels, among other potential top schools.

Texas has already landed three portal commitments in the 2023 class, highlighted by the former Arkansas Razorbacks redshirt junior All-SEC safety Jalen Catalon. If Texas is able to nab a commitment out of the portal from Mitchell, that would be a huge addition at a position of need in the wide receiver room.
