Despite the addition of Mitchell this weekend, Texas might not be done recruiting at the wide receiver position out of the portal as of yet. The initial thought was heading into the offseason that Texas was going to go after one or two portal wideouts in the 2023 class.

And similar to the need at the running back position this offseason, I think Sark and his staff might wait until after the conclusion of spring ball to add another portal wideout if necessary.

But I thought multiple times over last offseason that Texas was done recruiting out of the portal at wideout. And that proved to not be the case more often than not as Texas added a whopping four portal receivers in 2022.

If Sark wants to press the issue now and add more wideout depth ahead of spring ball, a fantastic option would be the former Marshall Thundering Herd standout redshirt junior Corey Gammage. In the last two seasons at Marshall, Gammage registered more than 1,600 receiving yards and eight touchdown catches.

He was an elusive and lengthy boundary receiver at Marshall that had an insanely large catch radius and was dangerous in space.

But the question remains with pursuing another boundary receiver in the portal such as Gammage if the numbers at the position would start getting overcrowded. There is one way I can see Texas actually kicking the tires on Gammage in the portal, though.

I still think a 6-foot-4 and 220-pound natural boundary receiver such as Gammage could be a good insurance policy for the Longhorns if redshirt sophomore Isaiah Neyor still isn’t healthy coming out of spring ball.
