Predicting Texas football’s next transfer addition after AD Mitchell
Gary Bryant Jr., WR
The most realistic portal addition at wide receiver for the Longhorns after adding Mitchell on Jan. 20 is probably the former elite five-star recruit and USC Trojans junior wideout Gary Bryant Jr.
Texas was already kicking the tires on the idea of pursuing Bryant out of the portal prior to Mitchell showing up on the transfer market earlier this week. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Bryant could be the top portal target at the moment at the wide receiver position had Mitchell decided to ultimately stay at Georgia in 2023.
And the possibility still remains that the 5-foot-11 and 180-pound Bryant is the type of player at wideout that Sark and his staff want to add depth in this room. Bryant could add some depth and another more proven playmaker that could play either at the x or h-wide receiver spot.
When healthy, Bryant is an elusive playmaker in the open field. He can pose a threat to opposing defenses in the passing game at almost every level of the field.
In Sark’s offense, Bryant is the type of weapon at wideout that can be motioned around pre-snap and be a big-play threat regardless if he’s targeted in the screen game or down the field in the deep passing game.
It’s worth mentioning that Bryant is probably going to take a while to make his final decision in terms of his next stop out of the portal this offseason. The plan for him is to finish up the spring semester at USC so he can get his degree and graduate.
Thus, if Texas is still looking for a portal wideout following the conclusion of spring ball in a few months, Bryant could still be an option worth looking into.
