Acting head coach Rodney Terry and No. 7 Texas basketball picked up a big win on the road in Big 12 play this weekend, which came over the West Virginia Mountaineers and longtime head coach Bob Huggins. Texas topped West Virginia on Jan. 21 by the final score of 69-61 thanks to a strong second-half performance.

After the Longhorns went into the locker room at halftime down by two points against the Mountaineers, this squad came out firing in the final 20 minutes. Texas beat West Virginia in the second half 43-33.

Texas got this win behind some strong efforts from the senior starter duo of guard Marcus Carr and center Dylan Disu. These two combined for 36 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

The bench also continued to come up huge for the Longhorns as the senior duo of big man Christian Bishop and wing Sir’Jabari Rice combined for 20 points. Texas got 20 points out of its bench compared to 12 from the Mountaineers.

This was a solid performance on both ends of the floor from the Longhorns. Texas forced a whopping 20 turnovers from the Mountaineers, which ties a season-high for Huggins’ squad.

Here’s a look at three overreactions following the Longhorns’ important eight-point win on the road on Jan. 20 over West Virginia.

Dylan Disu is the paint presence Texas needed

In the last couple of games, it feels like Disu has really found his game. He’s starting to produce at a higher level again on the offensive end of the floor while giving Texas a reliable post presence on both ends.

After posting an offensive dud of an outing in the win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders last weekend, Disu had two straight solid performances on that end of the floor. In the last two games, Disu has averaged 11.5 points per game on 71.4 percent shooting from the field.

Disu was bound to have an even bigger offensive output in the last two games had he not run into foul trouble both times. He posted nine total fouls in the last two outings.

Moreover, he also gave the Longhorns a nice boost on the boards in the win over West Virginia. Disu gave the Longhorns two possessions back on the offensive end to go along with three defensive boards.

What’s more, Disu didn’t turn the ball over a single time in the last two games. It’s worth noting that this is the first two-game streak for Disu where he’s scored in the double figures on both occasions without turning the ball over a single time during his two seasons at Texas.

The one area where Disu was insanely proficient against Texas Tech was with his rim protection. He had a season-high five blocks against the Red Raiders last weekend.

If Disu could combine his rim protection from the Texas Tech game with his offensive efficiency and mistake-free basketball from the last two games, he’s going to be everything this team needs in a starter at the five.
