Junior Angilau, IOL

Destination: Oregon

I actually think the most impactful portal departure to date on Texas came when super senior interior offensive lineman Junior Angilau decided to transfer last month. Many believed that Angilau would be in a spot to compete for a starting job in 2023 assuming he was able to make a full recovery from his unfortunate season-ending knee injury that transpired in camp last year.

Flood and the Longhorns were testing Angilau out as the starting center in fall camp. It looked like he was in line to be the next starting center which gave Flood and the Longhorns the prototypical “big man” that this staff likes to have to man the trenches.

Yet, Angilau ultimately decided to put his name in the transfer portal. That would take him closer to home as he committed to head coach Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks out of the portal on Dec. 20. Angilau will look to compete for a starting spot along the interior offensive line at Oregon next fall.

Meanwhile, Angilau’s departure likely means that rising junior Jake Majors will be the projected starter at the center position for the third year in a row.
