Stud No. 2: Timmy Allen, F

This was a really impressive bounce-back performance from senior forward Timmy Allen. Granted, I don’t expect any less in Big 12 play given Allen’s strong track record against conference foes in the last couple of seasons.

After posting a two-point dud of an outing in the win over West Virginia on Jan. 21, Allen got back in the double figures in terms of scoring in this triumph over the Pokes. He also made some nice passes, netting him three assists on the night, along with playing some gritty one-on-one defense.

Allen was seemingly all over the place on the defensive end of the floor, which included a nice closeout block on the perimeter to prevent a three-point opportunity for the Pokes. He also finished up the night with two steals.

But it was the offensive contributions that really highlighted the night for Allen. He finished up with 17 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Allen really made his money at the charity stripe, as the eight free-throw attempts are a season-high for the super senior.

This version of Allen looked like what we were getting in the first few games of Big 12 play, where he was scoring in the double figures while contributing on the glass and with his facilitating on a regular basis. If Allen plays like this, especially when the likes of senior big men Christian Bishop and Dylan Disu get into foul trouble, that will be huge for the Longhorns.
