A busy weekend in terms of Texas Longhorns news could continue on throughout the week as the football program and both hoops teams have plenty going on. The football program continues to stay active on the recruiting trail coming out of the Junior Day weekend. There are also some coaching hires that are either being announced or are close to getting done.

Bo Davis is spearheading some of the latest updates on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns staff, with a handful of late-cycle offers being handed out for the 2023 class. Over the weekend, it was announced on social media that Texas’ DL coach Davis had offered the under-the-radar 6-foot-5 and 305-pound Lawrence County (MS) defensive lineman Jonathan Davis.

Another late-cycle 2023 DL target that could potentially get an offer soon is the unranked Southwest Mississippi Community College product Jaden Hamlin. Davis and the Longhorns reportedly (per Inside Texas) hosted Hamlin for an unofficial visit over the weekend.

Davis is clearly keeping a keen eye out for potential DL targets to add late in the cycle to the 2023 class.

Moreover, Texas men’s hoops is set to return to action at the Moody Center for the first time in a week and a half on Jan. 24. Texas and interim head coach Rodney Terry will host head coach Mike Boynton and the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Austin on Jan. 24, with the tip-off time set for 8 p.m. CT.

One of the bigger storylines entering this game has to do with the injury status of sophomore guard Tyrese Hunter. The reigning Big 12 Newcomer of the Year left the game in the second half in Texas’ win over the West Virginia Mountaineers on Jan. 21.

There isn’t a concrete status update that we have on Hunter yet. But we’ll continue to monitor as anything comes out regarding an injury update for Hunter.

The next game up for women’s hoops is the Red River Rivalry game on the hardwood on Jan. 25 against the No. 14 Oklahoma Sooners.

  • More on the activity on the recruiting trail for Davis and the Longhorns. The recent 2023 DL offer, Davis from Lawrence County (MS), received another offer from the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Jan. 23. It sounds like his recruitment is starting to blow up and he could be deciding between taking a visit to see Texas and Mississippi State this coming weekend.
