The biggest new hire that Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian made so far this offseason is to fill the wide receivers coach vacancy. Sark hired the former Jacksonville Jaguars first-year wide receivers coach for the same role at Texas to replace the recently-departed wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion.

A few weeks ago, Marion left Texas to take the offensive coordinator position under new head coach Barry Odom with the UNLV Rebels. Sark and the Longhorns were able to replace Marion with a fast riser at the NFL level in Jackson.

This will be the first time that Jackson holds a coaching position at the collegiate level. He spent the last few years coaching in various roles on staff with the Chicago Bears and then the Jaguars.

One of the biggest early challenges that Jackson is bound to face this offseason is being able to effectively recruit his position group. He does have some valuable connections that could help him to get his legs under him in the recruiting game, namely with the widely-known and respected private wide receivers coach Margin Hooks.

Here’s a look at three blue-chip 2024 wide receiver recruits that Jackson could help the Longhorns land early in his tenure as WR coach.

Parker Livingstone

One of the names to know at this point of the 2024 cycle for the Longhorns at the wide receiver position is four-star Lucas Lovejoy (TX) product Parker Livingstone. Texas has made Livingstone a priority since last summer when he made an unofficial trip to Austin in June.

Texas also hosted Livingstone for a return visit to Austin a couple of weekends ago (specifically on Jan. 14). The early returns from that unofficial trip earlier this month are really positive.

In fact, it looks like Texas is one of the top two or three schools if that group had to be named right now in this recruitment.

And it seems like there is a viable connection that Jackson can work here with Livingstone. According to a report from Orangebloods on Jan. 26 (subscriber content), Livingstone is one of the wideouts that Hooks trains.

I would imagine that this is the perfect scenario for Jackson and Texas to utilize the Hooks connection on the recruiting trail. Livingstone was already really intrigued to see who the next Texas wide receivers coach would be.

And now he’s got one that he knows can develop talent at the NFL level and has connections that are close to him. We’ll continue to monitor to see if a return visit is in the cards in the near future for Livingstone.

The next visit on tap for Livingstone looks to be an unofficial trip to Fort Worth to see the TCU Horned Frogs, per Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports. That is interesting, though, since TCU didn’t make the top 10 that Livingstone dropped on Twitter last month.

Livingstone making the trip to TCU likely tells me that while he’s definitely got a list of top schools in his mind at the moment, he’s probably a long way from arriving at a final decision.
