Big 12 basketball: Social media reacts to OU dominating No. 2 Alabama
A huge day around the Big 12 basketball conference saw some pretty shocking results come out of the early games on Jan. 28. The most shocking result of them all, without a doubt, came when the unranked Oklahoma Sooners and star senior guard Grant Sherfield pulled off the crazy 93-69 upset at the hands of the No. 2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide at home at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.
Arguably the biggest win for second-year head coach Porter Moser during his time in Norman arrived in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge this weekend. Granted, there is a real argument that Oklahoma’s win in the Big 12 Tournament last season over the No. 3 Baylor Bears takes the cake for Moser.
Either way you spin it, this is a big one for the Sooners and the Big 12, as a whole. Moser, Sherfield, and the Sooners were just over five-point underdogs heading into this matchup against the Crimson Tide on Jan. 28.
According to Kenpom, Oklahoma had just a 28 percent chance of winning this game ahead of the tip-off.
But Oklahoma grabbed the momentum from the very beginning of this game. Oklahoma wound up taking a commanding 50-33 lead into the locker room at halftime. And the Sooners never looked back after a really hot start to this game.
Sherfield led the way for Oklahoma with a season and nearly a career-high 30 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field, 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Oklahoma also got a big outing out of senior forward Jalen Hill, who put up a career-best 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, 2-of-2 from beyond the arc, and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Sherfield and the Sooners were red-hot shooting from the field for the entire game. Oklahoma shot 57.9 percent from the field and nearly 70 percent from beyond the arc.

Here’s a look at the social media reaction following Oklahoma’s massive and shocking 24-point upset win at home over No. 2 Alabama in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Jan. 28.
Sherfield really led the way for the Sooners to have a massive day at the Lloyd Noble Center.
The Oklahoma scoring guard channeled his inner Buddy Hield this afternoon.
Actually seems like a reasonable take from this Alabama basketball fan. This was a rough day for Oats and the Tide.
This is funny to think about.
It feels like March at the end of the month of January.
Hill had the best afternoon of his career to date.
