The top-rated remaining uncommitted recruit in the 2023 class is the elite five-star Pinnacle (AZ) tight end Duce Robinson. Texas has continued to prioritize Robinson’s recruitment in the last six weeks or so since the conclusion of the Early Signing Period.

Despite head coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs making a spirited run on the recruiting trail at Robinson in the last month, it doesn’t appear that he will be signing on the first day of the late signing period this week.

A report from On3 on the morning of Jan. 31 indicated that there was a good chance that Robinson would pass on signing on the dotted line on Feb. 1. In fact, it sounds like he could draw out his recruitment past the first week of the late signing period.

Baseball will ultimately have a lot to do with the final decision for Robinson. He and his family met with some MLB organizations in the last couple of months, and it sounds like he might even be prioritizing his baseball career over college football.

If Robinson ultimately does sign on the dotted line to play college football in the next week or 10 days, then Texas could still be in the running. A report from Inside Texas’/On3’s Gerry Hamilton on Jan. 31 says that the “Longhorns remain in play” for Robinson heading into the late signing period.

All in all, I would still give a slight edge to Georgia over Texas and the USC Trojans in the race to sign Robinson during the late signing period. But it does now feel like the margins are closer than they were even one week ago. Texas is narrowing the gap.

Verdict: 50/50 chance Robinson signs this week. 20 percent chance the choice is Texas
