The most realistic addition for the Longhorns among high school recruits on the first day of the late signing period on Feb. 1 is the highly touted four-star TCU Horned Frogs commit and Red Oak (TX) safety Warren Roberson.

Texas is making a really big move late in the recruiting process with Roberson. Sark, safeties coach Blake Gideon, and the Longhorns hosted Roberson in Austin for an official visit last weekend. And the returns coming out of that official trip for Roberson to Austin last weekend were pretty much unanimously positive.

In fact, I would go so far as to say that Texas is probably the slight leader in this recruitment in the last couple of days.

But hanging onto that lead will be the challenge for the Longhorns. It still sounds like TCU is putting up a last-minute fight to retain Roberson’s commitment through the late signing period.

There is also the possibility that USC is able to win the race to flip Roberson’s commitment from TCU in the coming days. USC also hosted Roberson for a visit in the last couple of weeks. That was Roberson’s second visit to USC since last summer.

At the moment, I would still consider Roberson a Texas lean from all we’ve heard coming out of this recruitment in the last few days. But this one could still change in a hurry as Texas, TCU, and USC, all duke it out to try to get Roberson to sign on the dotted line this week.

Verdict: 70 percent chance Texas flips Roberson
