One of the top prospects coming out of the Texas football program in the 2023 NFL Draft class is the former senior leader and ultra-reliable running back Roschon Johnson. Roschon is one of two big-time talents at the running back position that the Texas program is sending to the NFL Draft in the 2023 class.

He is also one of the Texas Exes that was set to participate in the Senior Bowl this week. The other former Longhorn that is a Senior Bowl participant is senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.

Unfortunately, though, Roschon’s Senior Bowl ended before it could really begin this week. A tweet from Ian Rapoport on the morning of Feb. 1 reports that Roschon “broke a bone in his hand at the beginning of practice” on the first day of Senior Bowl drills.

That really is a shame given that Roschon was reportedly “impressive” on the first day of Senior Bowl practice on Jan. 31.

Roschon apparently played through the broken bone in his hand in the first day of practice during Senior Bowl week. But he probably won’t be participating in the rest of practice this week and the actual Senior Bowl on Feb. 4.

A report from Matt Miller and Pete Thamel of ESPN on Feb. 1 confirms that Roschon broke a bone in his hand on the first day of Senior Bowl practice. This ESPN report also mentions that Roschon “will not participate in the rest of Senior Bowl practices or play in the game”.

Another important nugget from this ESPN report regarding the injury news for Roschon this week is that it “will not require surgery”.

Roschon also “plans to stay the rest of the week to meet with NFL teams and learn in the Senior Bowl team meetings”. That’s not very surprising, though, given Roschon’s personality that we really got to know in the last few years.

The 6-foot-2 and 225-pound Roschon is widely considered a middle-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft class. Pro Football Focus ranks him as the ninth-best running back in the 2023 draft class and the 110th overall prospect.
