Texas Basketball: F signee Ron Holland named Naismith POY semifinalist
The highest-rated prospect committed to the 2023 Texas basketball recruiting class is the elite five-star Duncanville power forward Ron Holland. The nation’s No. 1 ranked power forward recruit in the 2023 class, Holland, has generated some serious buzz surrounding his game lately.
A standout senior campaign where Holland continues to get better on both ends of the floor has led to him getting some recognition for national awards this year. Two of the biggest honors that Holland has raked in thus far came within a span of just a couple of weeks.
On Jan. 24, it was announced that Holland was one of the selections for the 2023 McDonald’s All-American Game. He will be competing with the West Team in the 2023 McDonald’s All-American Game, which is set to take place at Toyota Center in Houston on March 28.
Furthermore, Holland got more national recognition earlier this week when he was included among the 10 players as semifinalists for the Jersey Mike’s Naismith High School Player of the Year award. This is Holland’s first time being recognized as a semifinalist for the Naismith POY award.

It is the second straight year, though, that a Texas commit was included among the semifinalists for the Naismith High School Player of the Year honors. Last year, former Montverde Academy forward and five-star recruit Dillon Mitchell was one of the 10 semifinalists for this award.

Holland was also included on the 2023 Naismith High School Player of the Year preseason watch list and the Naismith High School Boys Midseason Team in the last few months. He was one of two recruits committed and signed with the Longhorns 2023 class to be included on the Naismith preseason watch list, alongside fellow five-star recruit and Southern California Academy combo guard AJ Johnson.

Holland and Johnson are the only two high school recruits committed to the Longhorns 2023 class. Both five-star recruits signed with the Longhorns during the Early Signing Period back in November 2022.
