As of the morning of Feb. 3, three prospects are committed to the 2024 Texas football recruiting class. Two of the three high school recruits committed to Texas’ 2024 class are rated as blue-chip prospects. The other is the quarterback target that head coach Steve Sarkisian and QB coach AJ Milwee have been prioritizing since last summer, three-star Cypress Cy-Fair (TX) signal caller Trey Owens.

By most considerations, Sark and the Longhorns got off to a pretty slow start in terms of filling out the spots in the 2024 recruiting class. If you think about the momentum that Texas generated by signing a top-three-ranked 2023 recruiting class in the nation within the last couple of months, it’s easy to find it weird that the Longhorns only have three recruits committed to the 2024 class.

But this is the way that Texas’ staff planned out the trajectory of the 2023 class to really get the ball rolling during the summer while continuing to add high-priority pieces throughout the fall and on into the Early Signing Period. It looks like there will be a similar strategy that plays out for the 2024 class this offseason.

In the meantime, though, there are a couple of recruits that are committed to the 2024 class that seem to be hearing out some pitches from competing SEC schools on the trail of late.

Here’s a look at the two blue-chip high school recruits committed to the Longhorns 2024 class that took unofficial trips to SEC foes in the last couple of weeks, and where Texas stands with each.
