Outside of a couple of outstanding prospects that are still being prioritized in the 2023 class, the focus on the trail has shifted to the 2024 Texas football recruiting class in early February. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian will be looking to build some momentum on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class early this offseason to keep the ball rolling after they pulled together a tremendous 2023 signing class.

Sark and the Longhorns signed a top-three-ranked 2023 recruiting class in the nation. And considering how Texas might not even be done yet in the 2023 class, with a couple of outstanding priority blue-chip recruits still being pursued, it’s pretty awesome to think about what this staff could string together for the first few cycles for Sark on the Forty Acres.

Texas must get the ball rolling soon, though, with the 2024 class to be able to challenge for another top-three-ranked class in the nation.

Junior Day was a good place to get things started for Texas in the 2024 class this offseason a few weeks ago. Texas’ Junior Day festivities were held on the weekend of Jan. 21. There were a few dozen visiting recruits from the 2024 class on campus for Junior Day.

That might serve as something of a launchpad for Texas on the trail to add some key pieces to the 2024 class heading into spring. With that in mind, here’s a look at three five-star recruits that Texas could soon land in the 2024 class as of early February.

Justin Williams, LB

Among the top linebacker priorities for the Longhorns 2024 class that is also one of the fastest risers on the national recruiting scene for this cycle is the elite Conroe Oak Ridge (TX) product Justin Williams. The 6-foot-2 and 205-pound linebacker is someone that saw his recruitment explode in the last few months.

Williams even recently had a bit of a rating boost from ESPN that bolstered him to the territory of a five-star recruit.

Moreover, this will be a tall task for co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate to be able to win this battle on the recruiting trail for Williams. The Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning already seem to have the lead in this recruitment early on in the cycle.

Williams has a good relationship with Oregon’s staff, and the Ducks seem to have all the momentum in this recruitment since the Oak Ridge product made the unofficial trip to Eugene last fall (specifically on Oct. 22).

But Texas has seemingly made a good impression in the last two unofficial trips for Williams to the Forty Acres since last fall. Williams made the trip for the Alabama Crimson Tide game last September. He also was on campus for Junior Day on the weekend of Jan. 21.

We’ll see if Texas can capitalize on the successful Junior Day visit from a few weeks ago and keep making a move with Williams before spring ball.

If there was a school that could push Oregon in the race to land a commitment from Williams, Texas looks to be it.
