Texas Football: 3 elite 5-Star recruits the Horns can land in February
Jerrick Gibson, RB
One of the most fascinating position groups for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class is running back. RB coach Tashard Choice and the Longhorns have already pinpointed three or four top priorities at the position in the 2024 class.
And there isn’t a single priority that is more coveted at the position for the Longhorns than the nation’s No. 1 rated prospect out of the backfield, five-star IMG Academy product Jerrick Gibson.
Choice and the Longhorns seem to be in a good spot for the elite running back still in the early stages of his recruitment. In fact, Texas has looked pretty good in the picture of Gibson’s top schools since he made the trip for Junior Day on Jan. 21.

The Junior Day trip was Gibson’s second visit to the Forty Acres since last summer. And it looks like another could be in the cards by the summertime.
However, Texas is going to have a lot of challengers in the race to land a commitment from Gibson, namely from SEC schools. The Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators, Tennessee Volunteers, and Texas A&M Aggies all look to be among the top schools for Gibson as of early 2023.
If there was a school outside of the SEC that I had to pick as a realistic destination for Gibson, Texas would be it. Texas’ track record of recruiting and developing top talent at the running back position, along with Choice’s relationship with Gibson, should keep them among his top schools as the offseason progresses.
