Texas Basketball vs. Kansas: 5 bold predictions for clash in Lawrence
Kansas shoots better than 40 percent from deep, but still falls short of Texas
One of the major strengths that Kansas brings to the table is its three-point shooting ability. Kansas ranks third in the Big 12, making around eight shots from beyond the arc per game in conference play this year. The Jayhawks also rank fourth in the Big 12 in three-point shooting percentage in conference play, at a clip of nearly 36 percent.
The driving forces behind Kansas’ three-point shooting proficiency are Wilson and freshman shooting guard/wing Gradey Dick. Wilson and Dick are both draining more than two shots from deep per game this season.
Dick, in particular, is a stud in terms of his three-point shooting proficiency this season. He ranks in the top three in three-point shooting percentage in the Big 12 this season, at a clip of 42 percent. And he’s able to provide Kansas with a consistent and reliable threat from deep.
In 14 games this season, Dick has made at least two three-point attempts. He also has nine outings with at least three (per Sports Reference).
These two driving the three-point game for the Jayhawks is one of the major factors to watch in this matchup against the Longhorns. It’s worth noting that Kansas has a record of 14-0 when shooting at least 35 percent from deep this season.
And when the Jayhawks shoot worse than 35 percent from deep this season, it has a record of 4-5.
If Texas can limit Kansas’ three-point shooting in this one, that would go a long way to being able to nab a massive win in Lawrence. But if Texas was able to pull out the win while Kansas was effectively shooting from deep, that would be the first time an opponent did that to the Jayhawks so far this season.
