One of the fastest-rising targets of the Longhorns 2024 class that Texas’ staff has a ton of momentum with of late is the sizable 6-foot-4 and 325-pound three-star Duncanville defensive lineman Alex January. The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex native is starting to see his recruitment blow up nationally in the last couple of months.

Since December, January has received offers from the likes of the Florida State Seminoles, Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans, Tennessee Volunteers, Oklahoma Sooners, and Texas.

The Texas offer was announced by January on Dec. 31, 2022. And that sparked the aforementioned wave of big-time Power Five offers that January received in the last couple of months.

Since Texas offered January a little more than one month ago, defensive line coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns have made a sizable move in this recruitment. In fact, I would say that Texas has made one of the bigger impressions of any of the schools that offered and that he’s visited since last summer.

January was impressed by the unofficial trip he made to Austin for Junior Day last month. That was his first time visiting the 40 since Texas offered him in late December.

It sounds like January is planning trips to see the likes of Oklahoma and TCU by the end of the spring. And it wouldn’t surprise me to see him make it back to the Forty Acres before the summer.

If he makes it back to campus at any point in the next few months, that could be an opportunity for Texas to start closing the deal in this recruitment with a summer decision likely from the rising Duncanville defensive lineman.
