Before talking too much about the scoring ability of senior guard Marcus Carr for the Longhorns, I do want to mention that this moment in time serves as an opportunity for him to break out of a recent slump.

Carr had his worst three-game offensive stretch of the season prior to Texas’ 88-80 loss at Allen Fieldhouse at the hands of Kansas on Feb. 6. He shot just 2-of-14 from beyond the arc while averaging 8.7 points per game in the three games prior to Feb. 6.

But we saw Carr find the usual offensive rhythm that he put on display throughout most of the 2022-23 campaign earlier this week in Lawrence. Carr put up a game-high 29 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Carr was nearly spotless in the second half in terms of his offensive efficiency. After posting a whopping four turnovers and scoring just seven points in the first half against Kansas, Carr broke out in the final 20 minutes. He put up 22 points on well over 50 percent shooting from the field, with no turnovers, in the second half against the Jayhawks.

We need this version of Carr back to add some extra punch to the backcourt. When he’s on, he is one of the best tough-shot makers in the Big 12 and he is one of the most consistent Longhorns’ three-point threats. I also don’t want to overlook the fact that he’s got the best mid-range field goal percentage for Texas in conference play, despite his down stretch in late January and early February.
