Cedric Baxter Jr., RB

I mentioned before on this list that it didn’t take much digging to find positive information regarding the impression that Cook has made thus far in winter conditioning this offseason. It took even less time to see some early feedback from the time that the former elite five-star Orlando Edgewater (FL) running back recruit Cedric Baxter Jr. has spent on the 40.

We put up an article on the site last week talking about a winter workouts update that mentioned how Baxter was essentially like “a sponge” in terms of how he’s taken in knowledge and information since he arrived on campus last month.

He’s immediately grabbed the attention of people in and around the program, especially with a brighter spotlight on him in the running back room due to other injuries at the position. Baxter has more attention on him since rising redshirt sophomore running back Jonathon Brooks is still working his way back from hernia surgery he got recently.

Sophomore Jaydon Blue also looks to be working his way back from an upper-body injury he’s dealt with in the last couple of months.

Since Brooks and Blue are expected to be two of the top backs for the Longhorns in 2023, their respective injuries open the door for Baxter to make a bigger impact on this position group right away.

But it’s not just the running back room specifically that’s noticing Baxter’s arrival. He seems to be making one of the biggest splashes of any of the new arrivals via the 2023 class ahead of spring ball.

He reportedly arrived on campus with one of the most impressive physical profiles of any high school recruit that Texas signed in the 2023 class, at least among the early enrollees. It sounds like he was ready to go for this transition well before he arrived on campus, which is a tremendous sign of where his game is headed.
