Texas Basketball: 2 studs, 1 dud, from throttling win over WVU
Dud No. 1: Tyrese Hunter, G
Unfortunately, we have the arrival of sophomore guard Tyrese Hunter back on the dud list for the Longhorns. Despite Texas getting a lot of valuable contributions from the backcourt in this dominant win over West Virginia, Hunter remained quiet on both ends of the floor.
In fact, most of what we saw from Hunter in this game were unfortunately missed shots, despite a usage rate well north of 25 percent.
Hunter finished up this game with just seven points on an inefficient 3-of-12 shooting from the field and 1-of-3 from beyond the arc. He also registered one rebound, no assists, no steals, and one turnover.
Other than getting a dozen field goal attempts up in this game, Hunter was mostly unimpactful for Texas on both ends of the floor. And while senior guard Marcus Carr and even true freshman guard Arterio Morris were giving Texas a spark from the backcourt, Hunter couldn’t pick up the pace along with them.
Carr was really solid for the Longhorns, as he managed 16 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. He also gave Texas a whopping three steals, four assists, and just one turnover.
Meanwhile, Morris was a spark plug for Terry and the Longhorns off the bench with a dozen points on a decent 4-of-8 shooting from the field, 2-of-4 from beyond the arc, and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
This was a shame to see Hunter take a step back in terms of his offensive performance in this game as he looked like he was starting to find his shot again in the prior two contests.
