The 7v7 circuit of the offseason is now in full swing, which gives us a different type of look at the skill sets and evaluation of some of the top Texas football recruiting targets in the 2024 and 2025 classes. One of the big events around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex on the weekend of Feb. 11 was the DR7 “Road to the Championship” 7v7 in Plano, TX.

We were in attendance for the action in the high school division on the first day of the DR7 7v7 at Plano West High School on Feb. 11.

Here are some of the notes, observations, and top performers that we noticed on the first day of DR 7v7 in Plano this weekend.

Texas football recruiting notes and top performers from DR7 7v7 in Dallas

Some of the teams I got to watch the most on the first day of DR7 action on Feb. 11 were Texas Team Fury, Beast Mode Elite, NTX Eagles Elite, and Arkansas Elite 100. We also got some looks at 940 Elite U for the second week in a row as they made a good run at Pylon 7v7 Dallas last weekend.

Arkansas Elite 100 and 940 Elite capped the pool play portion of DR7 with undefeated records of 3-0. Team Fury Flames also had a solid showing on the day with a 2-1 record, while putting some impressive depth on display.

Bracket play will continue on Feb. 12 in Plano at DR7.

Top performers

  • Searcy Beebe (AR) wide receiver/athlete Oquoieah Earl was one of the two-way players that caught the attention of a lot of people at DR7 Dallas. He’s an underrated athlete that brings a lot of versatility to the table. The 6-foot-3 and 190-pound wideout Earl got work in at defensive back too for Arkansas Elite 100. Earl has offers from the Liberty Flames, Arkansas State Red Wolves, and FCS Eastern Kentucky.
  • One of the players that have caught my eye this offseason during the 7v7 circuit is the 5-foot-11 and 195-pound Lancaster (TX) running back/athlete Kewan Lacy. The gifted running back recruit was all over the field playing on both sides of the ball for NTX Eagles Elite. He’s able to line up all over the place while still posing a threat to the opposing defense. Lacy holds roughly 30 offers highlighted by the Alabama Crimson Tide, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Oregon Ducks.

  • The biggest surprise of the day for me was the play of the 2025 Montgomery Lake Creek quarterback Eli Morcos. The 6-foot-2 and 200-pound gunslinger was on point at DR7, showing impressive arm strength and a really tight spiral. Morcos’ timing on his throws was also remarkable as he was able to spread the ball around to a talented cast of wideout teammates for Fury Flames.
  • Morcos doesn’t currently hold any FBS offers, but he is a name to watch in the 2025 class as he’s got good size at around 6-foot-2 (pushing 6-foot-3 from what I could tell) and with the arm to make a lot of intermediate and deep throws look pretty effortless.
  • A teammate of Morcos’ on Fury Flames, 2024 Cypress Cy Ranch wide receiver Tracy James Jr., looks like one of the more underrated wide receivers in his class coming out of the state. The 5-foot-10 and 170-pound receiver was a stud for Fury at DR7 Dallas. He was able to beat opposing defensive backs on a variety of different routes and showed the ability to evade tacklers in space after the catch.
  • James also has great hands, which he has put on display at multiple stops in Fury’s 7v7 2023 circuit so far this year. He currently holds one Division I offer from Prairie View A&M.

A name that Texas fans should be familiar with if you follow recruiting is the touted 2024 Atascocita defensive back Braylon Conley. The 6-foot-1 and 175-pound corner was making plays consistently for Beast Mode Elite at DR7. We didn’t catch it on film, but he did bring down one of the nicest picks we saw on the day on a deep ball at the corner of the end zone.

  • Conley was all over opposing wide receivers, utilizing his length to be disruptive each time he was targeted in coverage. Texas remains one of the top schools for Conley as he has a good relationship with cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph.
