Texas Football: 3 returning starters assuming big leadership roles in 2023
Quinn Ewers, QB
Maybe the most encouraging buzz coming out of winter workouts so far this offseason is the emergence of rising redshirt freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers as a vocal leader in the locker room. Ewers is apparently leading a group in the winter conditioning program that is winning the competition that the staff holds to develop character and culture within the program.
Ewers being able to lead one of these groups to the top spot in the competition in the midst of the winter conditioning program is definitely something we weren’t even close to talking about last offseason after he initially arrived on campus after transferring in from Ohio State.
A winter workouts team report from Eric Nahlin of Inside Texas on Feb. 12 (paid content) also indicates that Ewers is taking on “a bigger leadership role” right away this offseason. Ewers is reportedly wanting to “be more vocal and to do that he has to do the right things to be taken seriously.”
Ewers is displaying more leadership traits early this offseason than we saw really at any point from him last year. This is a really encouraging sign as Ewers will have a larger load on his shoulders to lead the offense in 2023 upon the departures of Bijan and Roschon.
