Texas Baseball: Odds for the Longhorns to win 2023 College World Series
We are just a few days away from the start of the 2023 Texas baseball season. Texas will open up the 2023 regular season schedule on Feb. 17 at a neutral site at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX, against the No. 8 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks.
Head coach David Pierce and the Longhorns will be looking to follow up a nice run to the College World Series last season with a result in 2023 that is better than the preseason polls would otherwise indicate. The D1Baseball top 25 preseason rankings for the 2023 campaign didn’t have the Longhorns ranked.
Despite not being ranked in the top 25 preseason poll by D1Baseball, Texas still has good odds of winning the College World Series in 2023. Most sportsbooks pegged Texas as one of the two favorites out of the Big 12 to win the national title while this team was picked to finish fourth in the conference in the preseason media poll.
Texas was picked in the Big 12 media preseason poll to finish fourth behind the TCU Horned Frogs, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and Texas Tech Red Raiders (in that order from top-to-bottom).
A look at the odds for Texas baseball to win the College World Series this season
There were a few things in common that I noticed when perusing the different sportsbooks for the preseason College World Series odds. First off, nearly all of the oddsmakers named the LSU Tigers as the favorite to win the title in 2023. The Tennessee Volunteers were also often in second place in terms of the teams with the best odds to win.
Action Network is one of the sportsbooks that have pretty favorable odds for the Longhorns to win the College World Series in 2023. Texas’ is tied with the North Carolina Tar Heels with the 13th-best odds (+3000) to win the title this season from Action Network.
The Big 12 team with the best odds to win the College World Series this season from Action Network is the Oklahoma State Cowboys (+2500).
Moreover, FanDuel had slightly more favorable odds for the Longhorns to win the College World Series. FanDuel has Texas tied for the 15th-best odds to win the College World Series (+2900) with the likes of the Oregon State Beavers, Virginia Cavaliers, and North Carolina.
FanDuel also had Texas with the second-best preseason odds to win the national title of any Big 12 team only behind Oklahoma State.

Texas finished up last season with a record of 47-22 (14-10 Big 12). Pierce and the Longhorns will be seeking out their record 39th appearance in the College World Series this season. If Texas does make it back to Omaha in 2023, it would be the third year in a row for the Longhorns to to appear in the College World Series.
