The second game up on the regular season slate for head coach David Pierce and unranked Texas baseball comes on Feb. 18 in the College Baseball Showdown against a former Big 12 foe in the Mizzou Tigers. Texas will be looking for a strong response after it dropped the regular season opener against a tough foe in the No. 8 Arkansas Razorbacks on Feb. 17.

Junior left-hander Lucas Gordon gave the Longhorns five shutout innings on the mound. But the bats and bullpen weren’t able to provide the necessary support. Three runs in the top of the seventh for Arkansas were too much for the Longhorns in the end. Texas came up with two runs in response in the bottom half of the seventh but still fell short of Arkansas by the final score of 3-2.

Meanwhile, Mizzou will also be looking for its first win of the 2023 campaign on Feb. 18. Mizzou fell short by the final score of 5-3 at the hands of another former Big 12 foe in the No. 9 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys on Feb. 17.

Here’s a look at the betting odds and game prediction as Texas squares off against Mizzou at the home of the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX, on Feb. 18. The time of the first pitch of this game is set for 3 p.m. CT, and it will be broadcast live on FloBaseball.tv.

Texas baseball vs. Mizzou: Betting odds for Feb. 18

Texas is a 1.5-run favorite against Mizzou and the over/under is set at 10.5 runs (per DraftKings Sportsbook).

The moneyline favors Texas (-215) over Mizzou (+180).

Texas vs. Mizzou prediction

Texas will give the start to redshirt junior right-hander Zane Morehouse, who has a tough act to follow after Gordon absolutely shut the Hogs down on Feb. 17. Morehouse registered a record of 3-1 with a 6.00 earned run average in 20 appearances last season.

Meanwhile, Mizzou will give the call on the mound to junior left-hander Ian Lohse. Last season, Lohse registered a record of 2-2 with a 3.80 earned run average in 17 appearances.

Mizzou does have some bats to watch out for in this game. Sophomore infielder Trevor Austin and sophomore outfielder Ross Lovich have no trouble getting on base. Both bring some speed to the base path too, as they combined for 15 stolen bases last season.

There is also some known power in the middle of this lineup, with redshirt junior outfielder Luke Mann bringing back a team-leading 17 home runs from last season.

Texas got some output from the outfielders and catcher in the loss to Arkansas. The first four batters in the lineup (which included all the outfielders and catcher transfer Garret Guillemette) registered each of the five hits for the Longhorns on the night and two runs scored.

Pierce and the Longhorns clearly need more out of the infielder on offense to beat able to top a pretty good Mizzou lineup and an underrated pitching staff in Game 2 of the College Baseball Showdown.

dark. Next. 3 "permanent opponents" for Texas in the SEC

Texas is the favorite for a reason in this game. This is a big opportunity for the Longhorns to get its first win of the regular season in what is a difficult weekend of games with three solid opponents from the SEC challenging this team.

Final score prediction: Texas-7, Mizzou-3
