This game got way too close for comfort for interim head coach Rodney Terry and No. 6 Texas basketball against head coach Porter Moser and the Oklahoma Sooners at home at the Moody Center in Austin on Feb. 18.

Texas was a sizable double-digit favorite over the Sooners coming into this Red River Rivalry game on the hardwood this weekend. It looked like a good opportunity for Terry and the Longhorns to get a big win to further their chances to win the Bi 12 regular season title down this stretch in the regular season.

But Oklahoma did not relent at any point in this game. Oklahoma carried the lead throughout much of the second half until the Longhorns started to make a big push in the final minutes of the game.

Oklahoma had a shot to tie this game in the dying seconds of overtime, but junior forward Sam Godwin couldn’t finish at the rim. That gave the Longhorns the win over the Sooners in overtime by the narrow final score of 85-83.

Here’s a look at two studs and one dud from Texas’ narrow win in overtime at home on Feb. 18 over Oklahoma.

Stud No. 1: Brock Cunningham, F

There were a few options we had here in terms of who we could pick for the first stud spot coming out of this win over Oklahoma. Senior forward Timmy Allen was a pretty good candidate, but he had too many turnovers and missed some really key shots at the free-throw line down the stretch.

That means senior forward Brock Cunningham gets the nod as the first stud for his insane work ethic in this game on both ends of the floor. We saw Cunningham show a lot of what we’ve known him to do for multiple years playing for the Longhorns along with some of the new tools he’s added in the last couple of seasons.

Cunningham was money from deep early in this game, hitting two important three-pointers to keep Texas level with Oklahoma in the first 10 minutes or so.

He also came up with some clutch loose balls and offensive rebounds to get Texas some extra possessions. In fact, Cunningham came up with a whopping four offensive rebounds to lead this game for both teams.

If not for Cunningham giving Texas a scoring spark on the offensive end early in this game and coming up with some clutch plays on the glass throughout, I don’t know if this team is able to pull out the win in overtime when it’s all said and done.

A good hustle start for you is that Cunningham is now the first reserve player in the Big 12 this season to have three games with at least four offensive rebounds and one steal.
