Texas Football: 3 underrated early enrollees who’ll make noise in 2023
DeAndre Moore Jr., WR
This is another case of a former blue-chip recruit that signed with the Longhorns’ 2023 class that wasn’t necessarily criminally underrated by the major recruiting services but could’ve used a little more national respect. The former four-star St. John Bosco (CA) wide receiver and ex-Louisville Cardinals commit DeAndre Moore Jr. was someone that displayed a lot of the tools necessary to make an immediate impact at the collegiate level.
And while Moore had a solid senior season at St. John Bosco while having a good run during camp/combine time last offseason, he was still moved down in the national rankings by most of the notable recruiting services.
For instance, starting in December 2021, every single one of the more than one dozen updates that occurred in the 247Sports Composite rankings wound up bumping Moore down in the 2023 class.
That’s something that could definitely put at least a small chip on Moore’s should in terms of a motivating factor that can drive him, even more, to succeed in camp at Texas this offseason.
And when you’re someone as talented and explosive as Moore at wideout, it’s pretty dangerous to think that he could have even more motivation to make a big splash as a true freshman. Given that he’ll have some extra time to get a leg up on the competition by enrolling early to participate in spring ball makes this opportunity that much more abundant.
It sounds like Moore will be in a position to compete for a spot on the two-deep right away. And that definitely wasn’t a given coming into spring ball as Texas had some real talent and depth along the two-deep in the wide receiver room heading into spring ball.
But with four-star 2023 wide receiver signee Ryan Niblett choosing to enroll during the summer, along with second-year slot receiver Savion Red moving to running back, the door is all of a sudden open for Moore to take advantage of a huge opportunity this spring. Moore could definitely make some strides to start to lock down a spot on the two-deep, potentially at slot receiver, coming out of spring camp.
