Anthony Hill Jr., LB

One of the early enrollees from the 2023 class via the high school ranks that we’ve heard the most frequent discussion about early this offseason is the former elite five-star Denton Ryan linebacker recruit Anthony Hill Jr. The top-ranked linebacker recruit in the nation in the 2023 class obviously arrived on campus this semester with a ton of hype.

And a lot of that hype was valid as Hill is expected to be one of the biggest early contributors out of the 2023 class on the defensive side of the ball this fall. He is likely going to get first-team reps at linebacker in spring ball alongside the deserved 2022 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and rising senior Jaylan Ford.

If there was any doubt as to whether Hill would be able to handle the spotlight getting first-team reps in his first semester on campus, I think a lot of those should be put to rest coming out of winter workouts. Hill reportedly was one of the most dynamic athletes throughout the winter conditioning program.

He stood out in terms of the speed that he put on display, along with his vertical ability and sheer strength.

The aforementioned report from IT’s Nahlin early this week also noted that Hill looked the part as the “most athletically ready” among the early enrollees in the Longhorns 2023 class heading into spring ball. All in all, it sounds like Hill was ready to get down to work literally from the moment he arrived on campus, and that showed all throughout the last couple of months in winter workouts.
