A former starting Texas football linebacker is being hired to another Big 12 staff early this offseason. A report from On3’s Matt Zenitz on Feb. 23 tells us that the TCU Horned Frogs are hiring the former All-Big 12 honorable mention Texas linebacker Luke Brockermeyer as a defensive graduate assistant.

Luke will be joining his brother, and former Texas OL recruit Tommy Brockermeyer, at TCU in 2023. Tommy just transferred to TCU from the Alabama Crimson Tide as part of the Horned Frogs’ 2023 portal class.

Luke and Tommy’s brother, OL James Brockermeyer, is still at Alabama for his redshirt sophomore campaign.

As a native of Fort Worth, TX, and a product of All Saints Episcopal High School, Brockermeyer will now be returning to his hometown for his first Power Five staffer role.

Brockermeyer will be joining Sonny Dykes’ staff in the head coach’s second year at the helm at TCU. The former SMU Mustangs and Cal Golden Bears head coach had a magical first year in Fort Worth, making it all the way to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game with the Horned Frogs during the 2022-23 campaign.

Dykes and the Horned Frogs finished up the 2022 season with a record of 13-2 (9-0 Big 12).

Moreover, Brockermeyer is a former preferred walk-on that spent five years at Texas. He wound up working his way up to getting a starting role at middle linebacker in head coach Steve Sarkisian’s first year at the helm at Texas in 2021.

The 2021 campaign was Brockermeyer’s most productive in his time at Texas as he registered 72 combined tackles, five tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, two interceptions, and one pass breakup en route to All-Big 12 honorable mention honors.

Unfortunately, though, Brockermeyer suffered a torn ACL near the end of the 2021 season. That limited his role on the Texas defense in 2022, as he wound up getting just 15 defensive snaps after receiving more than 500 the year prior.

Brockermeyer played his last season at Texas in 2022. He finished up his career with 75 combined tackles over the course of three seasons where he received live-game reps for the Longhorns. Texas finished up the 2022 season with a record of 8-5 (6-3 Big 12).
