Baylor SG Keyonte George leaves game vs. Texas basketball with injury
A massive game in the Big 12 on Feb. 25 between No. 8 ranked Texas basketball and the No. 9 ranked Baylor Bears at the Ferrell Center in Waco saw a lot happen early in the first half. Texas got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 18-4 lead at one point in the first 10 minutes of the first half.
And just as Baylor started to close the gap against the Longhorns, the Bears suffered an unfortunate injury to one of its best players. The standout freshman shooting guard/wing and former elite five-star recruit Keyonte George wound up rolling his ankle while handling the ball on offense early in the first half against Texas.
George was then seen immediately hobbling to the locker room after the whistle blew on the play where he rolled his ankle.
Although, it didn’t take long to get an update from the ESPN crew calling the game regarding the George injury. Sideline reporter Kris Budden noted soon after George headed off to the locker room in the first half that he will be available to return to the game.

Budden also mentioned that this is confirmed to be an ankle injury that George suffered. The original update to the ankle injury was that George would be available to return.
But it wasn’t too long after that initial update that the ESPN crew updated George’s status as doubtful to return to the game vs. Texas.
It’s also worth noting that the ESPN crew mentioned that George was also playing through what sounded like an illness in this game between the Longhorns and Bears.
George played six minutes in this game on Feb. 25 before exiting with an ankle injury. He went 0-of-1 shooting from the field, with one rebound, and two turnovers.
Baylor did go on a run, though, following George’s exit with the ankle injury. The Bears were able to close a 14-point deficit to just two points near the end of the first half.
So far this season, George is playing like an All-Big 12 guard/wing as he’s averaged 17 points per game, 4.5 rebounds, three assists, and one steal. George is getting projected as a lottery pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
