Texas baseball looking for series win over Indiana on Saturday
Texas baseball and head coach David Pierce will be looking for their third straight win on Feb. 25, which would also give them the weekend series over the Indiana Hoosiers. Junior left-handed pitcher Lucas Gordon and the former TCU Horned Frogs graduate transfer Porter Brown led Texas to a clutch win late in the game on Feb. 24 over Indiana.
A game-winning three-run home run for the first-year Longhorn and starting outfielder Brown gave Texas the victory over Indiana at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Feb. 24, by the final score of 4-2. Brown finally gave Gordon and the Longhorns the run support they needed to close out a close game like this one on Friday night.
Texas was previously 0-2 on the season in games decided by two or fewer runs.
Porter Brown and Zane Morehouse can lead Texas baseball to a series win over Indiana on Feb. 25
Moreover, Gordon was tremendous again on the mound for the Longhorns in the two-run win over Indiana on Feb. 24. He gave the Longhorns a quality start with 5.2 innings on the mound. Gordon gave up just one earned run and four hits while striking out seven.
The win on Feb. 24 went to Chris Stuart, who was solid in closing out that game against Indiana. Stuart gave the Longhorns 2.1 shutout innings on the mound.
Texas will now rely on the 6-foot-4 redshirt junior right-hander Zane Morehouse to claim the series against Indiana this weekend. Morehouse will get his second start of the season on Feb. 25. He four innings on the mound, giving up three earned runs, in his first start of the 2023 campaign.
That four-inning effort in Morehouse’s first start of the season resulted in a walk-off loss to the Mizzou Tigers last weekend.
Texas will have another opportunity behind the efforts of Brown and Morehouse to claim a big win at home at the Disch in Austin. If Texas can top Indiana on Feb. 25, it would also move its record on the season to .500.
The first pitch time between the Longhorns and Hoosiers at the Disch on Feb. 25 is set for 1 p.m. CT. And then, the series finale between Texas and Indiana will begin at 12 p.m. CT at the Disch on Feb. 26. Both games will be broadcast live on Longhorn Network this weekend.
