An up-and-down stretch in the last couple of weeks for interim head coach Rodney Terry and the Texas basketball program has caused some movement in the NCAA Tournament and Big 12 title outlook for this squad heading into March.

Terry and the Longhorns had some real highs in the last few weeks and some pronounced lows including falling short of the Texas Tech Red Raiders on the road. Speaking of lows, Texas also hurt its shot in the Big 12 regular season title race by suffering a convincing defeat by nearly a double-digit margin at the hands of the No. 9 Baylor Bears on the road in Waco over the weekend.

On the other hand, Texas was able to secure some big wins at home in the last 10 days or so, including a dominant 18-point triumph over the No. 23 Iowa State Cyclones at the Moody Center on Feb. 21.

All told, Texas still has a pretty solid outlook in terms of its projected seed in the NCAA Tournament. Sitting with a record of 22-7 (11-5 Big 12) following the loss to Baylor on Feb. 25, the Longhorns still have one of the best resumes in the entire country heading into March.

Where Rodney Terry and No. 8 Texas basketball stand in the latest Bracketology?

Prior to the Feb. 25 loss to Baylor, Texas was floating around the lowest one-seed and/or the highest two-seed in the NCAA Tournament. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi pegged Texas as a two-seed (and as one of the automatic qualifiers), which put them up against the 15-seed Kennesaw State.

But that was prior to Texas’ loss to Baylor over the weekend.

There’s a possibility that Texas could move down in ESPN’s next Bracketology update this week.

TeamRankings

One of the most up-to-date Bracketology projections out there on a daily basis comes courtesy of TeamRankings. Texas is still projected as the highest two-seed in the NCAA Tournament by TeamRankings. And TeamRankings gives Terry and the Longhorns a 22 percent chance of getting a one-seed.

Fox Sports

Another one of the more recent Bracketology updates coming out of the weekend is courtesy of Fox Sports. On the afternoon of Feb. 26, Fox Sports published its latest Bracketology projections for the NCAA Tournament, with the Longhorns holding serve as the highest-rated two-seed.

It seems like there is a consensus heading into the final stretch run of the regular season for the Longhorns in terms of where it could fall on Selection Sunday. Despite losing two of its last four games, Texas still holds serve as a two-seed in the NCAA Tournament. It’s also still well within striking distance of a one-seed if Terry can get this squad to go on a run to close out the regular season.

Next up for Terry and the Longhorns is a matchup against the No. 24 TCU Horned Frogs on the road in Fort Worth on March 1. Texas will close out the regular season with two games in the coming week against two ranked opponents in TCU and the No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks.
