Texas baseball looking for series win vs. Cal State Fullerton on Sunday
After a really solid pitching performance from two arms in the rotation for Texas baseball on March 4, head coach David Pierce and his squad will look to reel off a second straight weekend series win. On March 5, Texas will have a shot at taking this three-game weekend series over the Cal State Fullerton Titans on the road at Goodwin Field in Fullerton, CA.
Pierce and the Longhorns got their first win of the weekend on March 4, thanks to brilliant performances on the mound from the likes of Zane Morehouse and Charlie Hurley. Morehouse gave the Longhorns a quality start with five innings on the mound. He only gave up one earned run and four hits while striking out five CSUF batters.
That was enough to give Morehouse his second win of the season.
Hurley was strong in relief of Morehouse in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hurley also gave the Longhorns four innings of solid work on the mound, as he allowed just one earned run and four hits.
Porter Brown and Travis Sthele can help Texas baseball win a second straight weekend series vs. CSUF
With the bats, senior outfielder Porter Brown led the way with yet another home run on the season. Brown and fellow senior outfielder Dylan Campbell both knocked solo shots in the first half of the game, which gave the Longhorns an early lead.
Brown has continued to bring some real pop to the middle of the Texas order. He’s already got four home runs and nine runs batted in over the course of just 11 games on the season.
Texas really needs that spark from the bats that Brown has provided early this season. He’ll need to help lead this Texas lineup again to come up with the series win over Cal State Fullerton on March 5.
Meanwhile, Texas will also need another strong outing on the mound from the pitching staff. On the mound for the Longhorns on March 5 will be sophomore right-hander Travis Sthele.
Despite giving the Longhorns nearly nine innings of work on the mound over the course of two starts, Sthele comes into this game with a record of 0-2, with a solid 3.12 earned run average.
If Sthele gives the Longhorns another quality start, he would be in a great spot to finally get the first decision of the season in his favor.
Texas heads into the finale of this three-game weekend series against Cal State Fullerton with a record of 4-6 (0-0 Big 12) following the 4-2 win over the Titans on March 4. The first pitch time for Sthele and the Longhorns against Cal State Fullerton will be at 2 p.m. CT on March 5.
