Possible position change: Boundary CB to STAR

Among the most obvious potential position changes during the spring could see the former blue-chip recruit and second-year boundary cornerback Austin Jordan either cross-train or move completely over to nickel.

We’ve already discussed the possibility this offseason of Jordan at least cross-training at nickel during the spring due to the injury issues that sophomore defensive back Jaylon Guilbeau is still dealing with. Guilbeau could either be limited during spring ball or miss the entirety of camp due to the aforementioned injury issues.

If Guilbeau does miss spring ball, that will open up a depth need at nickel behind rising senior defensive back Jahdae Barron. And given the depth that Texas has at the cornerback position this spring, it makes sense to move one of the more versatile DBs in this room over to nickel.

Assuming that Jordan does wind up either training exclusively at nickel this spring, or cross-trains at boundary and STAR, Texas has more than enough depth at boundary corner to make up for the loss. A potential solution that Inside Texas’ Eric Nahlin mentioned in a piece regarding possible position changes for the spring (paid content) involved moving sophomore field cornerback Terrance Brooks to the boundary.

I could see moving Brooks over to boundary corner behind redshirt junior Ryan Watts or cross-training Jordan at boundary and star for the spring. Both make sense given that the Longhorns have an abundance of talented and versatile DBs to rely on this offseason.
