Texas Basketball: 2 studs, 1 dud from mucky win over OK State
Stud No. 2: Dylan Disu, PF/C
Speaking of a player that is streaking right now, one way or another, senior big man Dylan Disu has really found his groove in the last four or five outings.
Disu played a critical role to help Texas’ frontcourt deal with the absence of Allen in this game. Let’s not overlook the fact that Disu played a season-high 32 minutes in this game as he was a stalwart on both ends of the floor for Terry and the Longhorns down low.
When the Texas offense started falling flat in the middle of the first half, Disu provided a spark from the paint. Disu put up eight points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the field in the first half of the game. He also got some freebies with three makes from the charity stripe in the final 20 minutes.
But scoring wasn’t the only area in which Disu made some really positive contributions for the Longhorns in this game. Disu also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with one assist, three steals, and one block.
All told, the impact that Disu had on this game was massive. He did exactly what the Longhorns needed out of him to get this big win over the Pokes to continue the quest for a Big 12 Tournament crown. Disu was a game-high +19 on the floor.
Disu’s streak in the last four games is pretty special. In the last four outings, he’s averaged nearly 14 points per game, a half-dozen rebounds, two steals, and two blocks while shooting 66.7 percent from the field and 60 percent from deep.
Texas is going to need Disu to continue to step up in the frontcourt for the remainder of their run in the Big 12 Tournament this week. Allen might not be back in the lineup until the NCAA Tournament, which means that this team needs a lot out of the likes of Disu, senior forward Christian Bishop, and freshman forward Dillon Mitchell.
