Barryn Sorrell, EDGE

Edge rusher was a huge position of focus for Pete Kwiatkowski and the Longhorns each of the last two years. But it looks like PK and the Longhorns are finally starting to get the puzzle solved in terms of finding some impact edge rushers this offseason.

The edge rusher leading the charge for the Longhorns this spring that is bound to make the biggest impact on the defensive front this fall is rising junior Jack Barryn Sorrell. The third-year edge player appears to really be settling into his role as a leader along the front seven this spring.

A practice report from Orangebloods on March 10 (subscriber content) specifically mentioned Sorrell as one of the players that really got down to work in the weight room early this offseason. Word on the street is that Sorrell is one of the most physically-impressive edge rushers so far in spring practice.

Sorrell is reportedly head and shoulders above the rest of the edge rushers this spring. He is bound to set the tone in run defense and the pass rush for the Longhorns this fall with the pace he’s on now.

The goal now for PK and the Longhorns will be to find the answer at the edge spot opposite of Sorrell. There are some guys that Texas needs to step up this year at the buck spot, including sophomore Justice Finkley, sophomore Ethan Burke, and redshirt freshman J’Mond Tapp.
