Texas Football: Isaiah Neyor making great progress in recovery from injury
We got to see Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian take to Denius Fields in Austin on March 10 for the first full-pads practice of spring camp. And there is plenty to talk about in terms of updates and nuggets coming out of the first full-pads practice of spring ball.
One of the biggest nuggets that surfaced heading into this weekend came courtesy of a major injury update. Multiple reports indicated on the morning of March 10 (including from CJ Vogel of TFB Texas) that redshirt junior wide receiver Isaiah Neyor was able to get pads on for practice for the first time since he originally suffered the season-ending knee injury in a fall scrimmage last year.
This is the first time that Neyor put the pads on in practice for the Longhorns since the fall scrimmage where he first suffered the unfortunate knee injury.
Neyor was reportedly wearing a large brace on the injured knee. And it sounds like he was pretty much immediately headed to the rehab facility with the rest of the injured players during the media availability window.
A practice report from Jeff Howe of Horns247 on the morning of March 10 (paid content) confirms that Neyor was seen in practice with pads on Friday.

This is great news for Neyor as it sounds like his recovery timeline is progressing pretty quickly. It is surely a notable moment on his injury timeline that he was already able to get pads on for the first time since originally suffering the ACL injury last fall.
A report surfaced a couple of months ago noting that Neyor was expected to make a full return to practice for the Longhorns by August. That would assume that he would be ready to be a full participant in fall practice.
We will continue to monitor Neyor’s injury status for any updates that come about throughout the rest of spring camp.
Neyor is an important piece to Sark’s offense. The 6-foot-3 and 220-pound boundary receiver was expected to start on the outside for the Longhorns last season alongside field receiver Xavier Worthy and slot receiver Jordan Whittington.
He returns to Texas in 2023 looking to make a big impact on this offense playing on the boundary. Neyor is joining a group of boundary receivers that has a ton of depth and talent this spring. Also in the mix at boundary receiver are the former Georgia Bulldogs sophomore transfer AD Mitchell and rising redshirt sophomore Casey Cain.
Texas finished up last season with a record of 8-5 (6-3 Big 12). Spring camp began with the first practice on March 6. The annual Orange-White spring football game is set to take place at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on April 15.
