Texas basketball and interim head coach Rodney Terry definitely saved the best for last in terms of their performance in the Big 12. Texas was able to dismantle the team that many experts pegged as the top seed in the country ahead of Selection Sunday, the one-seed Kansas Jayhawks.

Terry and the Longhorns came up with the massive 76-56 win over Kansas in the Big 12 Men’s Tournament final on March 11. Not only did Texas defeat Kansas by more 15 points for two consecutive weekends, but it also won two Big 12 Tournament crowns in the last three seasons.

It’s hard to overstate how impressive this win was for the Longhorns over acting head coach Norm Roberts and the Jayhawks. There are a few stats that help to sum up just how big this win was, though.

First off, Texas just became the first team since Kansas joined the Big 12 to defeat the Jayhawks by a margin of 15+ points on consecutive weekends. And going as far back as the last two decades (at the very least), Texas is the only school to defeat Kansas twice in the Big 12 in the same season by a margin of 15+ points.

And according to Sports Reference, Texas just became only the third team in the last dozen+ years to be Kansas by a margin of 20+ points in March.

If those two stats don’t do a good job of illustrating just how much of a feat today’s win was for the Longhorns’ I don’t know what does.

Here’s a look at three takeaways from the Longhorns’ 20-point win over the Jayhawks in the Big 12 Tournament final.
