Dylan Disu turned into the most valuable player for Texas

We’ve talked about it all throughout the Big 12 Tournament. The play of senior big man Dylan Disu can’t be overlooked for the Longhorns in the last few games. Disu answered the bell at the exact moment Terry and the Longhorns needed him to this season.

When Texas was missing senior forward Timmy Allen in the starting unit in the Big 12 Tournament, Disu played the best basketball in his two years wearing the Burnt Orange.

Disu had maybe his best outing of the Big 12 Tournament to help the Longhorns milk their size advantage in the frontcourt in this game. He registered a team-high 18 points on an incredibly efficient 7-of-9 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

The performance that Disu put on in the last few games, especially scoring from the mid-range and the paint was unmistakable. In fact, Disu ranked in the 98th percentile or better in terms of his shooting percentage from the paint and the rim in the last half-dozen game (per CBB Analytics).

Disu also put up a half-dozen rebounds (two on the offensive glass), two assists, and one steal. The only knock that I really have for Disu in this game was the three turnovers he had on the evening.

All in all, though, Disu was the dominant paint presence that the Longhorns needed in the Big 12 Tournament. He was a force to be reckoned with in terms of his rim protection, rebounding, disruptive one-on-one defense, and scoring from inside the arc this week.
